Peace School is a Muslim initiative started with the aim of providing quality education using mode
techniques of lea
ing, encouraging creativity and also emphasizing the convergence of spirituality with lea
ing.
The basic layout of the school, mosque and the entrance plaza is reminiscent of the traditional public squares in Fatehpur Sikri and Samarkand. The unique design of the school was developed on a sloping site allowing for the provision of separate entrances for each of the three blocks: the Admin block, High school block and the Kindergarten, at different levels of the slope while still keeping the different blocks visually connected to each other.
We were interested in using the large space seen in most Islamic building interiors but wanted to scale it down to a child’s level. This was done by introducing a large staircase which acted more as a social space in the main central atrium.
